The easiest and quickest route from Athens to Gythio is via the highway A7 to Corinth and Tripoli. At Tripoli you take the direction for Sparta, and when you arrive, you follow the signs to Gythio. Once in Gythio, continue on the main road and follow the signs to Mavrovouni Beach. When you reach the beach, turn left and you will see Thirides Beach Resort at your left hand side.
Another option is after Corinth to take the picturesque road along the coast through Argos, Astros, and Leonidio continuing through mountain roads passing the traditional villages of Kosmas and Geraki. Follow through to Vlachiotis, Skala and finally Gythio. This option is considerably longer through winding mountain roads (aprox. 330 km - 5 hours from Athens) but well worth the reward, with breathtaking natural beauty of both sea views, canyon passes and the mountainous landscape.
